AxiomChess is a free chess game review site. Enter your Chess.com or Lichess username, or import a PGN, and it analyzes your games with the same bounded Stockfish 18 pass (the full-strength network on our server at depth 18, or the lighter engine in your browser at depth 20) — honest move grading, a profile of your play style, weakness-matched puzzles, and coaching built on proven principles.
Yes. There is no account requirement, no daily review limit, and no premium tier to unlock deeper analysis. Game review runs on our server with the full-strength Stockfish 18 network at depth 18; turn Fast analysis off in Settings and it runs in your browser with the lighter engine at depth 20. The two engines are not identical: the server’s full network catches more errors in our testing, so a game can grade slightly differently in the browser.
Yes — enter a username from either site to review those games, or import any game as a PGN file. AxiomChess is an independent site and is not affiliated with either platform.
It grades the moves on both sides of the board, keeps the engine lines visible, and looks across your games for the recurring patterns a single review cannot show. The coaching is deterministic — advice comes from stated principles checked against Stockfish, so the same game always gets the same review.
Yes. AxiomChess includes an opening trainer, free and without an account. It teaches the theoretical main lines of each opening, sourced from master games and checked move by move against Stockfish, and drills them on a spaced-repetition schedule. Because club opponents rarely follow the main line, every position also shows what opponents at your Lichess rating band actually play. Every opening is ranked by the share of opponents at each band who reach it and then go wrong against the lines we teach, with the slip and the taught answer. Start at the openings hub.
Game review runs on our server with the full-strength Stockfish 18 network at depth 18, on both sides of the board; with Fast analysis off it runs in your browser with the lighter engine at depth 20. We chose the numbers by measuring. Our first test used the lighter engine: in a small, disclosed test — six games, 442 graded moves, scored against a much deeper reference search — depth 20 caught about 89% of the reference’s mistakes, while depth 18 and below caught about 78%. A newer test — 30 games, scored against a depth-30 full-network referee — found the full network at depth 18 under-labels fewer moves than the lighter engine at depth 20 (4.6% vs 6.0%), which is why the server runs it. We are still improving the system; the method and its limits are in the depth study on the blog.
A grade for the fundamentals in every game you review: is it safe, checks, captures and threats, loose and overworked pieces, and your prepared line — the habits a player can hold at the board. The board defines each opportunity, and a miss only counts when Stockfish’s own line confirms the principled move was better. Accuracy tells you how often you matched the engine; the Scorecard tells you which habit to fix.
